The sea of this island, in terms of the beauty of the seabed and the transparency of the water, does not fear comparisons. Precisely for this reason it is a destination every year for many fans of mask and snorkel. And if you too have chosen Sardinia to practice some healthy snorkeling, these are the ten best places.
We begin with one of the places where you go to sea in Cagliari. And it is also an essential destination for all snorkeling enthusiasts. The best areas of this protected marine area are the shoal of Santa Caterina and the island of Serpentara.
Snorkeling in Villasimius is an authentic experience. Secca di Santa Caterina, Variglioni di Serpentara and Nave dei Cavoli are the most famous places, but there are also beaches like Campulongu, Simius and Porto Su Nuraxi. Villasimius is about an hour’s drive from Cagliari.
You get to the island of San Pietro reaching Portovesme and, from here, embarking on the ferry. The coast of the island is like a jewel to be discovered even with snorkelling mask: among the many beaches, you can’t miss Cala Fico.
This name indicates a famous stretch of coast of northwestern Sardinia. The name Coral Riviera derives from the massive presence of red coral that makes snorkeling in this area simply unforgettable.
The Tavolara Marine Protected Area would not even need any introduction. From Capo Ceraso to Punta l’Isuledda, it’s all a succession of little bays to discover and explore with a mask and snorkel.
The two most famous beaches of this town in the north of Sardinia, near Porto Torres, are La Pelosa, overlooking the sea in front of l’Asinara, and La Pelosetta. The first one has a shallow white sand bottom, the second one is smaller, so it is better to reach it early in the morning. And to see in Stintino there is much more.
Famous for diving, the beaches of La Maddalena lend themselves to a bit of snorkeling: the recommended destinations are the coves of Lower Trinity, Punta Tegge, Spalmatore, Cala Francese. The sea that touches these beaches has no equal in the world.
On the northeastern coast, the beaches of Budoni offer various solutions for snorkeling (or to relax on a beautiful blanket of white sand enjoying the sun and the sea). With mask and snorkel, the two most suitable places are certainly Ottiolu and the Scogli dei Pedrami area.
A fraction of the Municipality of Dorgali, in the province of Nuoro, in the middle of the eastern coast. Here you can find some of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia, such as the famous Pink Beach.
Finally, we end in beauty with one of the most beautiful beaches of Sardinia. Cala Goloritzé is an authentic Italian national monument. The beach can be reached by land following a winding trekking route. But the spectacular turquoise color of the sea will give you wonderful underwater sceneries.
These are the ten best places on the island to snorkel. A wonderful sea to discover with mask and snorkel. Not before having booked the ferry to Sardinia.
