How to visit Asinara Island: all the info to discover a little paradise

During a holiday in Porto Torres or, in general, along the north coast of Sardinia, this island is one of the excursions you should not miss. To visit l’Asinara, below you will find all the information you need to organize the excursion in the best way.

How to get

The visit to l’Asinara National Park is possible only by contacting the authorized operators: the list can be found on the page Parcoasinara.org/en/contented/articles/details/530.

To get to l’Asinara, you have to resort to the various transport services that start from:

  • Porto Torres, ex Segni Dogana dock;
  • Stintino, port of Tanca Manna.

The boats arrive at the landing of Cala Reale, where there is one of the most beautiful beaches of l’Asinara.

How to visit the island

  • Guided tour. Accompanied by expert and authorized guides, you can walk the paths of the island. The price of the guided tour also includes a boat trip. The guided tour of the island can take place on foot, by jeep, by train or by bus.
  • Not guided walking tour. If you choose not to participate in a guided tour, you can move on foot in the Fornelli or Cala Reale area, or by bike for 25 kilometers to Cala d’Oliva.
  • By bike. On l’Asinara you can move by bike. You can bring your own or rent one on site. The biking trails are well signposted.
  • Electric car. At the dock of Cala Reale and Fornelli you can rent electric cars with which to move freely in the stretch cemented from Fornelli to Cala d’Oliva.
  • Taxi boat. With a call, a taxi service leaves from Stintino that takes visitors to the three landing places of the island.
  • On a sailing boat. With one of your sailboats, you can reach the island and dock exclusively in one of the numerous boa fields, and then land on l’Asinara with tenders.
  • In motorboat. A motor boat can approach l’Asinara exclusively by sailing in one of the two marked access corridors.
  • Canoeing. The canoe can freely access the protected marine area but you can disembark only on the landings of Fornelli, Cala Reale and Cala d’Oliva.
  • On horseback. To visit l’Asinara on horseback, contact the island’s equestrian center: the official site is Assial.it.
  • Diving. Diving in l’Asinara is a wonderful experience but you should still contact the authorized dive centers.

Sleeping at l’Asinara

The Cala d’Oliva hostel is the only accommodation facility on the island and also the only solution for sleeping at l’Asinara. These are large dormitories with shared bathrooms. The hostel also has a canteen.
