Traditions, nature, excursions, gastronomic specialties: this is the country of Tonara, located in one of the most pristine areas of Sardinia. And this is where, from October 3 to 4, will take place Autunno in Barbagia 2015.
Paese dei torronai (“town of nougat makers”): Tonara has become famous over the years with this name. Here, nougat makers produce the delicious torrone, always present during feasts such as Autunno in Barbagia. Two other gastronomic specialties of this place are porcini mushrooms and ovoli mushrooms.
These delicious mushrooms can be found in the woods around the town. Indeed, Tonara is literally surrounded by endless landscapes that reach the Gulf of Cagliari. Landscapes made of forests, springs, the slopes of Gennargentu, caves, gorges, waterfalls, valleys. In other words, a real paradise for hikers.
And, in addition to this, there are Cortes apertas, the real heart of Autunno in Barbagia: the historic courtyards of Tonara will be open to the public to show products, traditions and ancient crafts.
How to get there
The main tourist port, from which you can arrive in Tonara, is Arbatax, on the east coast of Sardinia. And once you are in Arbatax:
- Take the 398var state highway towards Nuoro
- Once you have passed Pratobello, take the 128 state highway and follow the road signs to Tonara
The trip will take one hour and 45 minutes by car.
