Oliena: Autunno in Barbagia between the fragrances of wine and mounts

The intense fragrances of the nature that grows on the slopes of Gennargentu. And the unforgettable fragrances of the typical wine and food products of the zone, prepared following the tradition. This is the best way to describe the second stage of Autunno in Barbagia, in Oliena from 11th to 13th September.

Oliena

The town became famous in the early twentieth century for the production of the Cannonau, one of the most famous (and appreciated) wine of Sardinia. Between the other typical productions of Oliena there’s also its famous and renowned olive oil, with its unmistakable taste.

As unmistakable is the naturalistic place where Oliena is. A place characterized by the presence of junipers, holm oaks, maples and hawthorns. And the Corrasi mount, the highest peak of Supramonte, overlooks all of this.

Between coves, waterfalls, torrents and the slopes of Gennargentu, Oliena is suggested for all the hikers. And there are the Cortes Apertas if you want to taste its many wine and food specialties: the historic houses will open their courtyards in occasion of Autunno in Barbaggia, giving every visitor a demonstration of the legendary hospitality of Oliena’s citizens.

How to reach

Nuoro is the biggest town near Oliena. Starting from Nuoro, you just have to take the provincial road 58 and then the provincial road 22 to east, following the road signs to Oliena. The trip lasts about 15 minutes by car.

Concerning the tourist ports nearest to Nuoro, the most important are Arbatax (in Ogliastra), and Olbia, on the northern coast: in both cases, reaching Nuoro by car takes about a hour.
