Pensieri e parole: a festival to discover the wonderful Asinara Island

There was a time when, due to the presence of the maximum-security prison, Asinara was, literally, off limits. Now, that prison is closed and the naturalistic and cultural rebirth of the island begins. And one (great) proof of this rebirth is Pensieri e parole festival, which will take place from August 18th to 21st.

Pensieri e parole

How can we describe the festival? Imagine this: after walking along the paths and after discovering the nature of the island, you sit in front of a movie screen; once the film is finishes, you can chat with directors, actors, screenwriters; and then, a pleasant walk reading a book.

This is Pensieri e parole festival: a mix of screenings, art and independent films, debates, book presentations. Near the beautiful sea of Asinara Island.

The island

  • Asinara is a real paradise if you want to see beautiful beaches: some of the most famous are cala d’Arena, cala Sant’Andrea and cala Sabina.
  • Beaches and not only: the paths, such as Sentiero del granito and sentiero del Castellaccio, are another great way to visit the island.

How to get there

To get to Asinara Island, you just have to take a boat from Porto Torres and from Stintino, on the north coast of Sardinia. There are several info points in the ports of these two towns. The location of the festival is the prison of Fornelli, closed in 1998.
