What is one of reasons for deciding to enjoy a holiday in Sardinia in winter? The Carnival, without a shadow of doubt, is the period par excellence dedicated to entertainment. And these are the three main events scheduled in 2018.

The Carnival of Tempio Pausania

It begins with one of the most anticipated events regarding the Carnival in Sardinia: we are talking about the 2018 edition of the Carnasciali timpiesu, which will be held in Tempio Pausania from 8 to 13 February. Although the official program has not yet been announced, it’s to be expected that there will be all the ingredients that made the Tempese Carnival a real must:

  • The parade of allegorical wagons;
  • Traditional masks (Ghjolghju Puntogliu, Mannena, lu Traicogghju, la Réula, lu Linzolu Cupaltatu);
  • The trial of Ghjolghju Puntogliu, which on the night of Mardi Gras is tried in the square, accused of all problems of the city and then burnt at the stake.

The Carnival of Mamoiada

The real focus of the event will be one of the most evocative traditions that characterize the land of Sardinia: we are talking about the parade of Mamuthones and Issohadores. But the Carnival of Mamoiada will be much more, with exhibitions, music, many collateral events and the opportunity to taste some of the most typical food and wine specialties.

The dates and official program of the event have not yet been communicated. For more information, please refer to the official website of the municipality of Mamoiada, Comune.mamoiada.nu.it.

Sa Sartiglia

The most particular way to experience the Carnival period in Sardinia. In fact, on February 11th and 13th (Carnival Sunday and Mardi Gras), the race will be held in Oristano: in other words, Sa Sartiglia, another event full of charm and folklore.

For more information, see the official website of the Sa Sartiglia Foundation, Sartiglia.info.
