Sardinia is a land of ancient traditions. Traditions that have become great events. Such as the Carnival of Mamoiada. And the colorful parade whose protagonists are Mamuthones and Issohadores.
Mamuthones and Issohadores
They are the real soul of the Carnival of Mamoiada. Mamuthones are one of the oldest Sardinian masks: black mask, black fur, bells on the back and chest. Issohadores wear white masks and white pants, red waistcoat and Sa Berritta (a black hat).
The parade of Mamuthones and Issohadores takes place, usually, on Sunday and on Mardi Gras (respectively, February 7 and February 9, 2016). It lasts all day and always follows the same order: Issohadores guide Mamuthones as if they were a sort of herd.
Not only Carnival
The Carnival of Mamoiada will be enriched by other events such as exhibitions and musical performances. And Mamoiada is the best starting point to discover one of the most beautiful tourist itineraries of Sardinia: the one of Cannonau.
