Woods, sources and menhirs: Autunno in Barbagia in Sorgono

A place totally immersed in the uncontaminated nature of Sardinia. Where, between water sources and green woods, there are numerous and precious proofs of an ancestral past. This is Sorgono. And here, from 23rd to 25th October, Autunno in Barbagia will be held.

Sorgono

Sorgono is on a side of Gennargentu particularly rich of sources. The village is surrounded by woods (cork oaks, holm oaks, wild olives) and by landscapes dominated by the granite. There are vineyards of Cannonau, Monica, Muristellu on the little hills, from which the renowned Mandrolisai is produced.

In this zone of Sardinia there are almost two hundred menhirs. In particular, near Biru and Concas there are some of the biggest in Europe. While in the center of Sorgono, between the stone houses typical of the local architecture, there are ancient noble palaces with Liberty and Gothic-Aragones style.

And always in the center of Gorgono you’ll find cortes apertas, the real hearth of Autunno in Barbagia: the courtyards of the historic houses will be open to all the visitors, offering a treasure made of typical productions and ancient profession.

How to reach

As in the other cities where Autunno in Barbagis is held, also Sorgono is in the province of Nuoro. To reach Sorgono from Nuoro:

  • Take the state highway 131dcn until Ottana
  • Take the county road 17 until Olzai
  • From Olzai take the county road 4 until Austis
  • From Austis, take the county road 31 until Sorgono

The trip lasts about one hour and ten minutes by car. To reach Nuoro, the two main tourist ports are Arbatax and Olbia: in both cases, reaching Nuoro takes one hour by car.
