Autunno in Barbagia 2015: Onanì

In October, it’s still time for a vacation to Sardinia. Especially if your journey is the opportunity to discover the most ancient traditions of this island. And, in this case, there is an event that is right for you: it is Autunno in Barbagia 2015, which will take place in Onanì from October 10 to 11.



The territory of Onanì is characterized by the variety of landscapes: green hills, forests of oak, the Mediterranean scrub, the routes of transhumance, the centuries-old holm oak forest of S’Adde de s’achina, the valleys of Riu Mannu, Riu Masicare and Riu Laerru rivers, the granite plateau of Mamone.

The beauty of nature is combined with precious rests of an ancient history: the domus de Janas in Cogoli, Nuragic towers, San Pietro Apostolo church, the murals of Diego Asproni.

And there is no Autunno in Barbagia without Cortes apertas: the courtyards of the historic houses of Onanì will be open to the public and will give ancient professions, handicrafts, traditions.


How to get there

To reach Onanì, you have two options: from Nuoro and from Olbia.

To reach Onanì from Nuoro:

  • take the state highway 131dcn towards north
  • once you are near Bitti, take the county road 73
  • follow the road signs to Onanì

To reach Onanì from Olbia:

  • take the state highway 131dcn towards south
  • once you are near Bitti, take the county road 73
  • follow the road signs to Onanì

The journey by car from Nuoro takes about half an hour, while from Olbia it takes about an hour.
