Autunno in Barbagia on December takes place in Gadoni

It’s in Comunità Montana Gennargentu – Mandrolisai and it’s famous for its copper caves: Autunno in Barbagia will take place in Gadoni.

Gadoni

Phoenicians, Carthaginians and then Romans dug numerous caves to extract copper. But the use of this precious metal is even more ancient: several Bronze Age carvings were found in this large area. Another famous place is the mines and the miners’ village of Funtana Raminosa. Today this site, with machineries and tunnels dug to find copper, is part of Parco geominerario, storico e ambientale della Sardegna.

According to legend, the origin of the name Gadoni is Cadoni, a fugitive shepherd who, in the Fifteenth century, came here with family and flock. Throughout the centuries, Gadoni was part of Giudicato d’Arborea, of Regno di Sardegna and of Signoria dei Lostia.

Autunno in Barbagia 2015 will be in Gadoni from December 4 to 6, and it’s the occasion to visit its territory and discover its story.
