It’s one of the most evocative stages of Autumn in Barbagia, a cultural and gastronomic event: Atzara open its cortes apertas from November 21 to 22.
Surrounded by vineyards, it is famous for the wine production since the Nineteenth century. Its vineyards, which rise on granite and porphyry, give life to the famous Mandrolisai wine.
Atzara has a well-preserved historic centre: old neighborhoods, narrow alleys, Medieval houses. You can still see Spanish Gothic style frames that adorn the windows of the old houses. These frames were made by “picapedres”, the skilled craftsmen of Atzara. Coming out from the alleys, you will discover small and pretty squares where there are some beautiful thirteenth and sixteenth centuries churches.
The territory of Atzara is really ancient, there are still remains of prehistoric dwellings and constructions of the Nuragic civilizations. And Autunno in Barbagia 2015 is the best occasion to visit this ancient place.
