Aritzo: Autunno in Barbagia in the ancient “houses of snow”

Surrounded by the slopes of Gennargentu, immersed in a luxuriant nature, keeper of ancient traditions: this is the visiting card of Aritzo. A place ready to receive the numerous visitors that will visit it on 24th and 25th October in occasion of Autunno in Barbagia.

Aritzo

Sas domos de su nie. Which traduced litteraly means “houses of snow”. Able and ingenious, Aritoz citizens built deep wells where they kept the snow taken from Gennargentu: covered by a thich layer of ferns, trunks and soil, the snow were sold during summer to refrigerate drinks and foods. And it’s not a case that one of the typical products of Aritzo is the “caraipigna”, a sort of lemon sorbet.

The beautiful historic center preserves the typical houses of Aritzo, made with schist and mud, with wood balcony. While the nature that surrounds the inhabited center has woods of hazelnut and chestnut trees, the wedge of Su Texile, numerous sources and suggestive paths.

And, last but not least, the courtyards of the historic houses of Aritzo will be open to every visitor, letting them discover ancient professions and typical products: these are the Cortes apertas.
